University Colleges

Dutch research universities established the first University Colleges in 1997. These honours colleges are part of a larger research university and are inspired by the Liberal Arts and Sciences programmes in the United States, with their strong emphasis on student community, and by the college structure found at, for instance, Oxford University. The idea was to create a small-scale inclusive learning environment.
